OVERVIEW

Cultures Mushroom Farm is a small Canadian company operating out of Ontario that grows various gourmet functional mushrooms and sells both fresh varieties and products made with freeze-dried mushrooms. They’re one of the only companies to use a freeze drying machine instead of a dehydrator, retaining the nutritional components, and adding them to items like teas, dressings and elixir kits.

CHALLENGES & APPROACH

One of the benefits to sellling directly to customers at local markets is a lower carbon footprint and being able to provide items at their peak freshness.

Cultures Mushroom Farm needed a way to display their items at markets while focusing on both the benefits their items provide and what makes them different from those you can find at supplement and big box stores.

Due to seasonality with both growing and markets, Cultures is able to test out different products to see what makes an impact and what doesn’t.

THE RESULT

The labels for their packaging were designed to be printed on-demand, rather than mass producing labels for products that may not last long.

The logo features a hand drawn engraving-style mushroom with a font that helps to instill feelings of care, quality and trustworthiness. The colour palette calls on hues of earth tones while adding a bit of punch with highlights vs. relying on the standard pallette employed by most other mushroom companies.

I also designed business cards which I laser engraved onto thin pieces of wood, and made a small self-hinged box for them to sit in. Later I added a tray for use at the markets made of wood with an area for business cards to sit and a small inset for the square reader.
