OVERVIEW

Big Hit Kickboxing Studios was a boutique-style kickboxing studio located in Toronto and surrounding areas. I originally started out as a member there before coming on board to take on graphic design and manage the branding direction for the company. The logo, icon, colour scheme and interior aesthetic for the studio locations had already been implemented.

CHALLENGES & APPROACH

Boutique gyms were popping up everywhere at the time, so it was important to make Big Hit visually different so that it stood out, while also promoting the unique aspects of their style of workout.

The main heading font was chosen for being bold and having distressing which added to the gritty look I had begun applying to all photography.

I brainstormed different slogans, (i.e. Why Jog When You Can Jab and Why Curl When You Can Kick), then took photos for that concept and created posters which were used for promotional purposes.

THE RESULT

Customer-facing items, promotional designs and the website had a branded textured / gritty look, whereas the franchise and corporate documentation had clean, crisp photos.

I also took photos during classes for social content, as well as for use in promotional designs and the website, and did the product photography for the various limited edition gloves and accessories offered in each location.

I hand-drew the floorplans of the locations and the interior of the Beat Box for use in the franchise packets, and hand-lettered a wall in each location with some phrases consistent between each location and some specific to each.

The original website was created to include an online booking calendar, a breakdown of each class, and an updated new member offer as well as seasonal events.

After nearly a decade operating several locations, Big Hit eventually closed after Covid no doubt impacted their business.
